Newsweek’s Daniel Gross explains the Consumer Price Index (here’s the official BLS site) in a very simple video. I could do without the goofy sound effects, but it’s a good, 2 minute explanation of how the government tracks inflation.
Per David Simon’s Berkeley talk, though, the video doesn’t go into why this matters. Perhaps they’ll cover that in the next installment of the Economics 101 series.

I finally uploaded the pics from our vacation. This is pared down but it’s still a LOT of photos. Be warned, there are over 560 right now. My goal is to get these down to maybe 80 or 90 good photos, but it’s taking a while to get them organized. No software, not iPhoto or the Flickr Organizr, seems to handle this many photos well. Deleting a single photo takes on the order of 10 seconds or more.
