This clip has been making the rounds on the Internet, so odds are you’ve seen it. If you haven’t, you should watch it, preferably in HD at Vimeo. At the very least, click the title of this post to see it full size. :)

The premise is simple: Matthew Harding took a trip to 42 countries to film short clips of him doing a silly dance, sometimes alone, sometimes with lots of local folks, often in beautiful locations. The result is this 4:28 video.

I’m proud to share the fact that this guy is from Connecticut. They don’t call us nutmeggers for nothing.

Update: The song is (called Praan) is available at Amazon’s MP3 store. The web site for the project is, appropriately, wherethehellismatt.com, where there are more videos and maps.

Via Jishman, we have this wonderful article about Trader Joe’s. I wonder if this is still true with Aldi now owning the chain:

Coulombe also wanted to make sure his employees were paid fairly, instituting a policy in the 1960s that full-time employees had to make at least the median household income for their communities—an average of $7,000 a year at the time, $48,000 today. Store captains, almost all of whom are promoted from within, can make six figures annually. Trader Joe’s also allows part-timers to earn health-care benefits, a feature that makes the store a haven for artists, musicians, and other creative types who wouldn’t normally seek supermarket jobs.

That’s pretty amazing considering that minimum wage puts you under $20K per year, and the median is the minimum at TJs.

Almost at the bottom of a box of Trader Joes Chocolate Covered Soy Nuts. Man, I miss having them around.

For those fans of Trader Joes who can’t get enough about the grocer and their products, I’ve found the blog for you: Tracking Trader Joes. The blog covers the good and the bad, from product reviews to recalls of products. The site says it’s an independent blog unaffiliated with TJs and they’ve got good information. It’s the first place I found online that has the opening date of the new West Hartford location (Nov. 5th for those of you keeping track), and it seems to be run by a fellow Connecticution.

I’m looking forward to the new TJs opening up. I miss the selection there which was sooo much better than the local Wild Oats we have here. Oh, and in an interesting development, a Whole Foods store is opening up within walking distance (a long walk) from our house. I’m looking forward to next summer, maybe walking over there on the weekends to grab groceries. Of course, it’s in suburban CT, which means they have parking and easy access to the roads (assuming some of the Blue Back Sq. construction finishes up soon.)

I’ve been meaning to post that a Trader Joes is about to open in West Hartford. The store is right next to Best Buy pretty much meaning that I’ll be happy to go do the grocery shopping… it’s Heidi’s fault if I keep coming home with a DVD or CD or something every time I get the groceries.

Update: Opening date seems to be tomorrow based on the only thing I could find.
