Newsweek’s Daniel Gross explains the Consumer Price Index (here’s the official BLS site) in a very simple video. I could do without the goofy sound effects, but it’s a good, 2 minute explanation of how the government tracks inflation.
Per David Simon’s Berkeley talk, though, the video doesn’t go into why this matters. Perhaps they’ll cover that in the next installment of the Economics 101 series.

(PS. I’m slowly becoming disenchanted with Obama’s campaign. He seems like a good man, and would make a decent President, but the missteps on the trail with the gospel tour and his staffs habit of insulting minorities (including Indians) seem amateur. More on this some other time)
Looks like Colbert got his iPhone.
I don’t agree with him on most things, actually, but on the important issues of the day, this is the ONLY Republican who is both consistent and intellectually honest.
