Keep in mind she’s an agent, so she has those biases, but this is a pretty good set of statistics to look at. My sense is that the overall credit/mortgage crunch is going to be the primary issue in West Hartford. The overall housing market in WH didn’t seem that insane to me. Granted, I did get “used” to looking at the Boston Metro market, which was insane, so perhaps I’m too optimistic.

Newsweek’s Daniel Gross explains the Consumer Price Index (here’s the official BLS site) in a very simple video. I could do without the goofy sound effects, but it’s a good, 2 minute explanation of how the government tracks inflation.
Per David Simon’s Berkeley talk, though, the video doesn’t go into why this matters. Perhaps they’ll cover that in the next installment of the Economics 101 series.
