My sister mentioned the AMA apology when I was visiting the family this past weekend. This article lays out more details about what the AMA was apologizing for and why this happened now.
The funny thing is that they used a bunch of lines straight from Palin’s Couric interview.
Publius has a good point here. I didn’t know the historical context of the term “Sister Souljah moment” until it came up during the primaries. Even after reading accounts of the episode where it was coined struck me as racist. I’ve had the same reaction to it now that it’s being used to flog the stupid Jesse Jackson non-story.
These two men are both idiots, and are likely racist, if not in actual belief, then in the message they’re putting out there. This isn’t analysis or an attempt to understand something but a message of fear. “Be Afraid” and vote for our guy. That’s their message.
Also, on an unrelated note, did you know about the violence and threats levelled by GOP operatives in Florida in 2000? This post by Greenwald contains links and background on how the GOP managed to shut down the recounts in Florida. It wasn’t all the courts but window pounding, fist shaking threats of violence by staffers of DeLay and the other GOP leaders.
The party is corrupt. We need more light on their misdeeds.

Sen. Joe Biden should just drop out of the Presidential campaign. Seriously, go away. I was insulted by the Indian-American comments but chalked it up to a bad joke gone awry. After all, hah-hah, “Thank you, come again.” This is just ignorant.
This is why it’s so hard to make sensible security policy in this country… people like Michelle Malkin fanning fears based on racism. She’s pathetic.
