Some more details on the fake press conference held by the FEMA second-in-command. Clearly, they’re lying about happened. Your modern Republican party, folks… this is how they govern.
One of those mocking, derisive but ultimately silly attacks made by both Giuliani and Palin yesterday had to do with mocking Obama’s time as a community organizers. I’ve read many different posts today defending the work community organizers do but Obama, as you might expect, puts the right perspective on the issue. Steve Benen has more background.
(he slightly misspeaks at the start — it was 20 years ago, not 3).
FEMA’s vice-administrator held a press conference where his own aides acted as if they were reporters. Seriously… they held a press conference and called it so that no reporters would have time to show up and gave out a dial-in number that would only allow reporters to listen. Atrios has more.
On a somewhat related note, this is what’s frustrating about all of these false calls for “bipartisan” outrage. When the Democrats (at the federal level) call a staged press conference, you let me know.
C&L has an interesting AP report (video) that contains footage from the video conference call between FEMA agencies, the White House, and other disaster planning folks. This is damning stuff, as we see the President contradict his public statements on the specific predictions and estimates of Katrina damage. Bottom line: they knew what could happen and then did absolutely nothing to prepare for those unique circumstances. (via Atrios)
