Two words: Net Neutrality. We need that legislation now.
I’m on a mashup kick as of late, much to Heidi’s annoyance on road trips. When I get to run the radio, it’s all Girl Talk lately and she hates that stuff. Anyway, I found two more artists over the last few days. Both guys have their stuff on their web site for free.
The video above is using a mashup called Sweet Home Country Grammar which is a mashup of Sweet Home Alabama and Nelly’s Country Grammar. So far, it’s just about my favorite discovery of the past few months. The mashup is by DJ Mei-Lwun. You can download this track along with several others at his web site (click his name in the previous sentence). I also really love his mashup of Kanye West’s Jesus Walks and AC/DC’s Back in Black. The mashup is called Jesus Walked Back and He’s Black. It works really well.
The other artist I found has also been doing the mashup thing for a while. His name is Party Ben and he also has an extensive collection of his tracks on his web site. My favorites right now are Galvanize the Empire, a mashup of the Chemical Brothers’ Galvanize and the Empire March from one of the Star Wars movies, and Rehab (Can’t Help Myself), which mashes up Amy Winehouse’s Rehab and the Four Tops’ Can’t Help Myself. So good. Check out his web site, you can preview and/or download a whole ton of stuff there.
I’m dumping Comcast for cable (going to DirecTV), but I wish I could get rid of them for Internet, as well. Would love another high speed option with similar speeds…
I just cancelled our cable TV service. We had a promotional rate from Comcast of $20/month for basic cable. They wanted to raise it to $50 or offer me a “special” deal on upgrading to digital. I asked if I could keep my promotional rate. They said no, it is only for attracting new customers. So I cancelled it. I will miss some of the channels but I don’t think it is worth the price they want to charge me.
I am just forced to wonder why the special deals are reserved for new customers. I know this is a common complaint about cell phone service too. Attracting new customers is a far more expensive proposition than keeping old ones happy, so why not work on that aspect. Instead of getting $20/month out of me, they now get nothing. It seems very silly to me. I know they think customers will not cancel their service, but when one actually does, you’d think they’d make some sort of last ditch offer.
Oh well, I guess I will look at satellite TV now or just wait until the next good offer rolls around from Comcast. Or just use this opportunity to spend more time reading and hang out outside this summer.
