There isn’t a post I’ve written over the past few months where I don’t find grammatical errors, spelling errors, or just downright poor writing. I’ll just randomly skim old posts because they show up in Sitemeter and typically have to fix 2-3 mistakes. Just wanted to say that I’m aware of it, and am trying to do better. Ultimately, trying to squeeze in blogging, which is fun and usually relaxing, into the start-up schedule means less time proofreading. And, as my wife tells her students, proofreading is the key to good writing.

Newsweek’s Daniel Gross explains the Consumer Price Index (here’s the official BLS site) in a very simple video. I could do without the goofy sound effects, but it’s a good, 2 minute explanation of how the government tracks inflation.
Per David Simon’s Berkeley talk, though, the video doesn’t go into why this matters. Perhaps they’ll cover that in the next installment of the Economics 101 series.

Sujal, with tongue planted firmly in cheek, I applaud your ironic use of a double-negative in the first sentence of your apology for poor grammar.
It’s a miracle you take the time to clue me into cool stuff. You don’t even need to use punctuation or capital letters, as long as the links and your comments are there.

I don’t think I’ve said that proofreading is the key to good writing — but it is vital for clarity, and it stops knee-jerk judgment about one’s intelligence.

Dmr, that’s EXACTLY my point. That first sentence SUCKS. But I was too tired to fix it.
Though, I have to say, my lovely wife says that it’s actually not a double-negative.

At work, I’ve found that grammar and format consistency are used as a proxy for quality in my slides. When an executive sees a single mistake, he goes into proofreading mode. Executives in proofreading mode aren’t thinking; they’re evaluating. We all lose.
When I return home, I have used up all my conjugation for the day. Wifey pretty. Move good. Construction loud.
