Baz Luhrmann’s take on Romeo and Juliet remains to this day one of my favorite movies. It’s on TV right now, and it’s the first time I’ve seen it in a long, long time. Watching it again, I realize I’ve forgotten how good Perrineau and Leguizamo are as Mercutio and Tybalt. If you missed this movie, you should rent it. This movie, as much as any, is responsible for my appreciation of musical scores and soundtracks. The music is unbelievably good.
By the way, I just noticed Paul Rudd played Paris in the movie.
Anyway, I don’t really have much of a point here. Just felt like sharing.
(As I write this, we’re about at Act 4, which is the weakest part in both the movie and Shakespeare’s play… really, exile? and we need to watch it?)

I remember going on a date to see that movie the night of a big dance at Brandeis (also known as “Screw your roommate”), and it will possibly forever stand as one of the worst dates I have ever been on. By extension, I hold this movie responsible, because it wasn’t even able to save the pain I felt from that evening.
Just sharing…
