Interesting data from New York Newsday about the costs of everyday goods (using BLS data). I didn’t realize how much certain items have gone up.

Finally, after way too freaking long, Buraka Som Sistema has released their latest album, Black Diamond. The song above, Sound of Kuduro is by far the best on the album, but there are some other nice gems on here. MIA is featured on several tracks, and the rhythm is just addicting. I cannot sit still when this is on.
Click on the image to download the album (as DRM free MP3s) from Amazon.

I’ve noticed a big spike in the price of milk and eggs especially. I used to be able to get 3 dozen eggs at Costco for $2-3 (the price varied), now it’s like 4.79. Still not an awful deal, but a big percentage jump. Meat has also gone up quite a bit (which I realize you don’t buy), but a lot of that may be attributable to the use of corn for ethanol, which drives up the cost of animal feed.
I used to spend about $50/week on groceries (not counting Costco stuff - just produce and regular grocery items), now I’m lucky to get out for $60 or $65 on a good week. Some of that may be because Joe actually eating now, but it’s pretty clear prices are going up a lot and a lot of people are getting squeezed. Sales also don’t seem to be as good as they used to be.
