I agree with him about the backlash. There’s been a lot of discussion about that. Heck, my sister and I had a similar conversation over IM yesterday. I’m generally a idealist when it comes to voting, and try to avoid the calculating, “statement vote,” but even I’ve been tempted to vote for her because, ultimately, I know she’s competent and I know these attacks are ridiculous.
Really, this is the sign that something is broken in our political system. Our coverage covers all of these issues, tears, anger, and gender but the fact of the matter is that NO ONE ever argues she’s not competent. It’s crazy. They’re inventing reasons not to believe she can do the job because, quite frankly, everything about her and her demeanor and her bearing demonstrates she can. Of course she’s calculating. She wants the job. Why are we hating on that?
That being said, I don’t agree with Cole about the “steak & potatoes” vs. hope stuff, since I’m supporting Obama. His policies are actually pretty sound and are laid out both on his web site and in various publications. He has a good team around him, too. Really, that’s true about all the Dems, honestly.
