Newsweek’s Daniel Gross explains the Consumer Price Index (here’s the official BLS site) in a very simple video. I could do without the goofy sound effects, but it’s a good, 2 minute explanation of how the government tracks inflation.
Per David Simon’s Berkeley talk, though, the video doesn’t go into why this matters. Perhaps they’ll cover that in the next installment of the Economics 101 series.

As much as Sujal and I may disagree on things… we are in full agreement when it comes to the Classless New England Patriots!
Shame on the Kraft family and the whole organization. It was one thing when the owner would act like a drunken fool in post game interviews but now that the whole organization acts like a bunch of bozo’s day in and day out is a reflection of their lack of class.
