The National Campaign for Fair Elections is currently signing up volunteers for Election Protection 2008. The Democrats have announced their own initiative (although I didn’t see anything about it on the website). (As some of you may remember, I volunteered in Ohio back in 2004, and before that served as a Democratic poll monitor in Virginia in 2001 and 2005. I highly recommend it to anyone with the time/inclination.) If anyone isn’t already registered to vote, register now. Finally, a few ideas for holding your own voter registration drive.

Newsweek’s Daniel Gross explains the Consumer Price Index (here’s the official BLS site) in a very simple video. I could do without the goofy sound effects, but it’s a good, 2 minute explanation of how the government tracks inflation.
Per David Simon’s Berkeley talk, though, the video doesn’t go into why this matters. Perhaps they’ll cover that in the next installment of the Economics 101 series.
