Newsweek’s Daniel Gross explains the Consumer Price Index (here’s the official BLS site) in a very simple video. I could do without the goofy sound effects, but it’s a good, 2 minute explanation of how the government tracks inflation.
Per David Simon’s Berkeley talk, though, the video doesn’t go into why this matters. Perhaps they’ll cover that in the next installment of the Economics 101 series.

I don’t agree with politicizing our legal system by any means…
But let’s not just blame Republicans. The Clintons played politics with AGs as well.
Does it make it right? No.
Does it happen? Unfortunately.

Clintons played politics with AGs how exactly?
If you think it’s wrong, the Republicans should’ve and could’ve done something about it then. Remember, they controlled both House and Senate then and did not lack for using subpoenas and on-the-record interviews of Executive Branch members, including the CINC himself. Remember that little perjury thing that turned into an impeachment proceeding?
Let’s not start making stuff up again. If there was even a whiff of impropriety, Rush Limbaugh, Hannity and friends would’ve invented a massive conspiracy theory and plugged it all day to the base and the Republican majority in Congress would’ve happily blown another $30 million on a fishing expedition.
The sad thing is that you know this is true and just won’t admit it. The current Republican leadership is corrupt. Period.

It was that he had Janet Reno fire all 93 Us Attorneys at the start of his first term. A pretty opportune move at the time.
The Wall Street Journal just had an interesting article about it about ten days ago… it actually made fun of Bush for being an amatuer at it compared to the Clinton administration.
Here’s the link:

Actually, The Republicans did not have control until 1995 after the 1994 elections.
Whether we agree it’s wrong or not, it happens. Both parties do it, have done it, will do it, and unfortunately, it will continue.
It’s politics.

One other point I would like to make about the article above….
It unfairly and I strongly use the word UNFAIRLY because it assumes that Mrs. Clinton, who was the First Lady at the time and NOT the Junior Senator from New York, had anything to do with the firings.
The article, although poking fun at the Bush administration for their inept handling of the situation…. takes a very slanted, almost campaign directed shot at Mrs. Clinton and I do want to point that out.
It was under Bill Clinton’s administration when Janet Reno had the Us attorneys fired
Hillary was not the President, nor the Junior Senator… and therefore, the undertone/underhanded slant on the article is an underhanded shot at the Ms. Clinton.

I’m taking this to a top level post. The silliness of this WSJ editorial is too much.
