Hilzoy at Obsidian Wings highlights an ongoing story in Zimbabwe where the government has been seizing consignments of tampons and sanitary napkins intended for impoverished women. This is leading to a whole host of complications (domestic violence, lost wages, basic health issues) because the government is stupid. Read the whole story, it’s hard to believe.

I can’t help but view stories like this as a classic example of why we need women in politics– it’s one of those issues that speaks directly to our experience as females in a way that men are unlikely to understand.
