Authors of FM, if you put a post in the “Link” category, it will display like the Charlie’s Angels post below. This is to allow a compact layout when you just want to pass a link on without (much) commentary. I find that I often don’t pass on links because I don’t have much to add. So, this way, we can just drop in little links without having all the extra meta data and formatting (posts, titles, etc.). You can, of course, fill out more text and include whatever HTML you want, but the idea is to keep it compact.
If you fill in the storyLink custom field (look below the Advanced section) with the URL of the link you’re passing on, the headline will go directly to the link instead of going to the comments page for that post. For consistency, I’d ask that the link be in the body somewhere as well so that the comment page works (I still need to modify it to behave the same as the front page).
The particular implementation was inspired by a variety of blogs including Kottke, Kareem’s blog, and Think Progress.
