I’m pretty sure everyone has guessed or would guess that Douglas Adams’s face was the final improbable form of the Heart of Gold at the end of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. I didn’t realize that they used a 3D render of his face for one of the planets on the factory floor (click for a larger size):

Look closely. Here’s the explanation from the director:

“Before he died, he was working on a game and it cyber-scanned his head which was really amazing. It meant we had all this data of his face. It meant we could build a planet of his face in the planet factory and also use it in the end for the final improbability effect. Also we were building a temple for John Malkovich’s character. It was a giant nose that was an exact replica of Douglas’s nose. Not that anyone is going to watch it going, ‘That’s Douglas’s nose!’ [except] his mother.”

I would not be surprised if this sequence became the foundation of a Disney ride (no, I don’t have any inside info). It would be so awesome to fly through that factory floor.
