The next Google check I get (should be soon) will be going to Habitat for Humanity. They’re preparing to set up rebuilding efforts for Katrina in Mississippi and Louisiana.
I want to volunteer. Anyone interested in going?
PS. Don’t click on ads you’re not interested in… that’s fraud and unfair to the advertiser. Feel free, however, to click on any ads you find interesting.

My wife and I would like to go as well. Let me know if you’re planning something

Good for you, suj! While I’d love to help out, the holidays coming up make it almost impossible.

When were you planning to go? The Habitat site seems to indicate that, at least in the near term, they mainly want people with experience in disaster areas…

I don’t know. I needed to talk to Heidi because of the whole limited vacation/wedding/honeymoon thing going… at least to ask her.
I’m going to fill out the form, be honest about my inexperience, and be ready with a backpack. I figured it would be easier with friends along and we could sign up a group.
Let me know what you think. My understanding from the news is that rebuilding won’t happen in NO until late October at the earliest, but MS and other parts of Louisiana might be sooner.
I’m also looking at other places… the Red Cross training program in Farmington is full for the near future and they require a two week stint.

I could probably tag along, but not until after the fiscal year, which ends October 31. After that, I have 6 weeks of vacation to burn.
