Hey, has anyone used that evil double sided sticky tape to hang things like mirrors, and then had to remove it? Any hints on how to do this without tearing up my walls?
it seemed like SUCH a good idea at the time….
Newsweek’s Daniel Gross explains the Consumer Price Index (here’s the official BLS site) in a very simple video. I could do without the goofy sound effects, but it’s a good, 2 minute explanation of how the government tracks inflation.
Per David Simon’s Berkeley talk, though, the video doesn’t go into why this matters. Perhaps they’ll cover that in the next installment of the Economics 101 series.

depending on the type of tape, you can try one of four options:
1) Goo Be Gone… took paint out of my wall to wall carpet without destroying the carpet
2) Hair Spray… spray it on the tape, let it sit for about ten minutes… this works for two sided tape on car decals so you don’t destroy the tape but it takes like four or five tries…
3) Nail polish remover… this actually is what you use to break down crazy glue. depending on the type of tape, it might work.
4) You can also try to steam it.
I do not envy you… and each of these might leave some discolorization of painted walls that might need to be touched up.
Good Luck!

cool thanks! They are re-painting the walls anyways so I am not too too worried. Just don’t want to destroy the actual wals themselves…

I cut the stuff off the walls, then used a sponge and water to soak the residual from the wall.

My big problem is I used it to hang up mirror squares…. so I need to remove the mirrors then get rid of the rest of the junk… I think dripping some solvent (or just water or something?) behind the mirrors might help? plus a putty knife?

That was my problem exactly. I used a 9″ carving knife around the edges to cut through the tape, then a wet sponge to get off the residual.
