So, this afternoon, we were trying to think of current popular female singers who are both socially conscious and sings about it. Right, so after we exhausted the 3 artists we collectively knew, we started asking other people around the office. Fast forward to after we’ve asked everyone else, we finally turn to ask the CE(n)O. In addition to suggesting Jewel, of course the CE(n)O also suggested Hilary Duff’s song Jericho to start, followed by numerous others. (Seriously, who else would have such a collection of knowledge of 16 year old chick pop music (besides my sister), but him? Not only that, but it took him like 4 seconds to think of these songs!) Walking away, we just couldn’t help but laugh.
A few things here:
1.) No one was even remotely shocked that the CE(n)O suggested Jewel (this was of course after he looked through his collection of Madonna, Jessica Simpson, Norah Jones and Alicia Keyes).
2.) No one was surprised that he was able to give not just one, but multiple suggestions on the topic.
3.) He also asked me to email his daughter and ask her too (which of course prompted a “let me tell you what’s not going to happen…” response).
Alright, just another little vignette from the J-Files…

Why would you be discussing this at work? Shouldn’t you actually be working? Frankly I dont really care. I’m just trying to get a writing sample into a tablet PC so that it can learn my handwriting.
Ok, Pretty lame, I know. How about the Indigo Girls. Talk about mega social conscious. And they even have a fairly recent album out there.

Don’t know if she’s “popular,” but I’d add Dar Williams. Also Natalie Merchant, and I think Fiona Apple has a few songs in there…
