Have any of you tried the new Coke, Coke Zero? I just bought some today from the cafeteria. It’s, um, interesting. It tastes more like regular Coke, but in a weird way. Not sure if I like it quite yet. The bottle is quite striking though, with the all black appearance. I wonder if the soda is actually darker than normal Coke or if it’s simply a function of the rest of the labeling being black.

Newsweek’s Daniel Gross explains the Consumer Price Index (here’s the official BLS site) in a very simple video. I could do without the goofy sound effects, but it’s a good, 2 minute explanation of how the government tracks inflation.
Per David Simon’s Berkeley talk, though, the video doesn’t go into why this matters. Perhaps they’ll cover that in the next installment of the Economics 101 series.

Today I saw 4 different sampling events for Coke Zero on the Jersey shore. I had to stop at every one of them. This stuff is the best diet soda on the market. You got to try it.

If I have to go for reduced calorie, I stick with C2.

According to a friend who works for Coca-Cola, they are marketing their new Coke Zero brand to men. They realize that women are very atracted to the diet coke brand and wanted to develop a product that men could identify with, hence the black and red colors on a white can, and to provide this market segment a zero calorie beverage. He said that they designed the can to look like a can of Bud from a distance hence the black/red colors on the white can.
They did some market research regarding the taste and overwhelmingly the men wanted a drink that tasted just like coke classic and had no aftertaste that would remind them that they are drinking a “diet” beverage. He also said that Coke-C2 is also a beverage marketed to women and they have no plans to discontinue Coke-C2 but they are holding off adding flavorings to both Coke Zero and C2.
