Can someone explain something to me because this has all become tired to me, has Barry Bonds ever said, “Yes, I took this stuff that I knew was like a steroid…” or something to that effect? Therefore, how exactly has he jumped? (not that I’d mind this story going away any time soon).

Growing up, my Dad impressed upon me that you should never root for an athlete to be hurt. Never hope that an opponent would be knocked out of competition because of an injury. Always applaud a hurt player, urging him or her back quickly.
Until now, I have abided by that dictum.
I hope Barry Bonds never steps foot on a field again.
Yesterday he announced he may be out for the season. I hope it’s longer.
Everything bad in sports coalesces in Bonds. He is nasty. He is unappreciative. He is a hot dog, a preener who cares only for himself and none at all for his team.
He is a choke artist, failing in every meaningful series (except one).
He is a liar.
He is a cheater.
Mr. Flaxseed Oil should be indicted for perjury. His “records” should be stricken. And he should be held out to America’s youth as an example of who not to be.

If there was a man who personified the victim complex, it’s Barry Bonds. Calling him a drama queen might be too kind.
the worst part about this is that there’s actually a substory here about whether he’s not able to heal as well because, well, he’s off that substances…
I remember being in San Fran and listening to the Giants fans around me mock and deride Bonds for his effort out in the field. And it wasn’t the loving fear that Boston fans have for Manny out in the field (we just accept he’s a bad fielder), it was derision. He’s baseball’s Randy Moss: the fans just know he just doesn’t give 100% out there in the field sometimes. After all, they don’t give Gold Gloves to guys that aren’t actually good fielders…

PS. Is this not tired for everyone? I’m not sure if I’ve ever been less excited as a player approaches a major milestone in his sport. I cared more about the touchdown record in football. Heck, I cared more about Lance Armstrong’s run at the sixth Tour de France. And baseball is my favorite sport….

I love the following statement from a guy in North Carolina:
“Do you think they could develop a supplement for Barry Bonds called “perspective”? It appears that Bonds is missing this. I’ve never heard a millionaire gripe that much about things that were his own fault. If your knee is screwed up, then retire. If your tired of the media scrutiny then a) don’t take steroids, and b) don’t play professional baseball.”

Is Barry doing this so he has an excuse if he comes back next season and doesn’t perform as well as he did while on steroids? “Oh man, it’s my knee. Yeah, that’s it, my knee….”
On the plus side, baseball starts in 2 weeks and I already have Tigers-Red Sox tix for May!

I don’t think he’s doing it because he’s not going to perform well… what I think is happening is that he’s not going to be able to heal as fast/well. At least, that’s what I’m hearing from all the commentators. Bram would know better, of course…
