One of the things I miss in the house is not having a TV in my office. I need background noise to stay focused (don’t ask) and it helps to keep me taking limited breaks. I used to try to watch DVDs but I could never find a good way to do so with the DVD player. Most of the applications I used need a lot of screen real estate and giving up even a small chunk where I can’t grab a scrollbar is too much.
I think I have a solution to this problem, though. This post at NSLog.com clued me into a cool little application called Trans Lucy. It allows me to watch a DVD using a semi-transparent overaly. In other words, the movie floats on top of my other applications and is just translucent enough so that I can see the scroll bars and other controls underneath the movie. It rocks. So, I’m now watching The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King while I’m still doing my work. I’m happy.
