Federal agency funds advertising campaign for a Bush policy proposal. That ought to seem unethical because, well, it is. Is it against the law? I sure hope so, because it ought to be. Will the Bush administration do it anyway? Of course. Who’s going to prosecute?
The Medicare thing was bad enough, but at least that seemed legal, if shady.

I ran across the following link today.
It appears that it is not a law, but a bill will be introduced in the Senate. It appears just a few Democrats have signed on but hopefully, the smart members of the GOP will sign on as well. We will see…
As to who would prosecute. Well, that is interesting. According to the language in the bill that is being filed:
“The act would allow citizens to bring qui tam lawsuits on behalf of the United States government when the Department of Justice does not respond.
If the matter is taken to court, the bill proposes that the senior official responsible would be fined three times the amount of the “misspent taxpayer funds” plus an additional fine ranging from $5,000 to $10,000. And if a citizen’s qui tam suit is accepted, the bill proposes that the plaintiff receives between 25 and 30% of the proceeds of the fine.”
So, I guess that means… anyone could. That would be interesting language… we’ll have to check back and see what happens.
