Last night, The Marsh played their last show “for a long time.” Despite working a late shift (till 11 PM), I headed over and caught the last two hours or so, including a rousing rendition of Pearl Jam’s Yellow Ledbetter to close it out. There’s something to be said for trying to be a band in the Connecticut market, and the Marsh have definitely found some success within those parameters. I’m sure you’ll hear “18″ and “That’s OK” on the radio some day. But to play so many cover songs at so many shows, I’m impressed that the Marsh and Darik and the Funbags and Kick and Sevenender and Chorduroy have all lasted this long. It’s a noble cause, playing music you didn’t write for people who aren’t really listening. I guess it just caught up with them.
I’m glad I was able to catch last night’s show (if I hadn’t had the late shift, I probably would have gone to see Darik at Toads), and I’m glad that I’ve gotten to see the Marsh a zillion times in the last two years. I’m sure they will be utterly successful in the future.

read your entry, i wouldn’t want to be classified as a cover band, ever. we only play covers in bars to fill a 3 hour set. 70% of our set is original while the remaining 30 is covers consisting of stuff nobody else plays. so to be grouped with derik and the fun bags, in my opinion is a severe over-sight.
