Heidi and I are, right now, stuck in Newark’s Liberty International Airport (EWR) after having our flight to Austin (via Cleveland) cancelled because of weather. In fact, in the customer service line, I heard a number of people talking about the fact that no flights to Ohio have seats open until December 26th. I would guess that for, well, everyone, that won’t work.
Luckily for us, we’re booked on an evening flight out of here, which means I get to fork over $6.95 for the wireless network here (which is pretty good) and work on my day off. Around me are a bunch of pilots sitting in groups of 2 or 3 and all talking about what sounds like labor negotiations with their employer (Continental?). They don’t seem happy but several seemed willing to take a pay cut in exchange for some assurances about jobs. Nothing fascinating, I guess.
Oh, and Sbarro still sucks. In case you were wondering. If anyone has any ideas on something to do while stuck in EWR, I’d appreciate it. ![]()

Since I assume your phone can get email and/or SMS, set it up to get notifications of changes/cancellations of your flight. You will get a notice 20-30 minutes before they announce it and you will that much ahead of anyone else.
As for Newark, it is inside of a wasteland, so there isn’t much you can do except sniff the New York’s garbage.
