Brent Simmons posts a decent argument in favor of XML-RPC over SOAP or REST for simple RPC needs. I’m not familiar enough with SOAP or REST to comment intelligently on this (sorta) but I did want to pass it on. The points he makes are quite valid. I also agree that SOAP is far more complicated than most applications need.

REST is intriguing, however, and in use in a couple of protocols of interest to me right now, so I’ll become a semi-expert soon enough…
