I just applied for an ISSN for FatMixx. Why? Because I can.
Not sure if they’ll accept it, but I hope they do.
Update: It looks like they probably won’t accept it. It’s an interesting thought, though.
I wonder how the Library of Congress would react to having to archive blogs and other serial web sites that register for an ISSN number. People talk about the problems of archiving the web, but some of our more significant historical events are taking place wholly and only online. For example, Powerline convincing CBS to re-evaluate the National Guard memos…. this was reported in traditional media, but the key motivators were posts on Powerline. Do we only have archives depending on the efficacy of their own backup procedures? Should we have better archives?
