Article over at The New Republic points out the disconnect between Bush’s tough rhetoric and the reality of our foreign policy with regard to North Korea. I wonder if the war in Iraq was an enabling event for these two countries (Iran and North Korea). It should’ve been clear from the outset that the costs of war in Iraq, both financial and political, plus the commitment of troops and military resources would probably make us unable to respond meaningfully to North Korea or Iran’s nuclear programs. I thought it was just a coincidence, but I’m beginning to wonder whether those two countries have outplayed us in terms of foreign policy strategy.
