Didn’t have time to post this yesterday, but TNR had a piece on a new film in India that has a lesbian encounter as a core part of the film. The release prompted riots as well as record box office receipts. The movie is called Girlfriend. It seems it isn’t exactly kind to lesbians, though, as one woman goes on to realize she likes men and the other dies in an attempt to kill the man to get the woman back.

You know, it probably says something unflattering about me, but Indian lesbians and gay men still, well, not exactly surprise me… I guess I don’t have any exposure to them. There are no out gay Indians in my extended family, basically, and I don’t actually know any. So I’m still doing the mental double-take when I read articles about them.
