The ACLU is still battling the Justice Department over parts of the Patriot Act. In the latest round, Orcinus points at a Memory Hole find that shows the Justice Department abusing the powers granted to it in the Patriot Act in ways that the ACLU is contending the Justice Department would. Read the post, because he explains it better than I can right now. Short version, the Justice Department redacted an excerpt of a Supreme Court ruling (which is public record) from public copies of their filings that might look to the rest of us watching the case like it might weaken the Justice Department’s case.
