One of the things I love about sports is the ability to look back at the memories it created. I’m watching the final game of the 1997 World Series on ESPN Classic where the Marlins beat the Indians to win it all. Looking at the players, it’s crazy… Hershiser as an Indian, Charles Nagy, a very young and fit looking Manny for the Indians. Bobby Bonilla, Jim Eisenreich playing on the Marlins… That was the second World Series appearance for Jim Eisenreich, probably a player you wouldn’t think of if asked to name players who played in two World Series (or hit a home run in two different Series).

Newsweek’s Daniel Gross explains the Consumer Price Index (here’s the official BLS site) in a very simple video. I could do without the goofy sound effects, but it’s a good, 2 minute explanation of how the government tracks inflation.
Per David Simon’s Berkeley talk, though, the video doesn’t go into why this matters. Perhaps they’ll cover that in the next installment of the Economics 101 series.
