Love the bass line, and really love that the gunshots were taken out of the track. Really never liked the gunshots in the album version anyway.

LET ME PREFACE THE FOLLOWING: The following is an email sent to my by my aunt (a reliable source in my life) BUT I did not see the broadcast in question and will reserve actual anger over the following until I can confirm the facts firsthand. I will reserve judgement until I can truly confirm, but the following is from my aunt: (if anyone did see the events in question, please calrify… I have a request into NBC for a videotape. don’t know if I will get one)
–start note–
Did you see the Denzel Washington interview with Katie Couric on NBC last Friday morning (13 August 2004)?
Not many people are talking about it. They are wishing it would go away and are trying to sweep it under the rug.
But it’s not going to happen! It basically went like this.
********************
Meryl Streep and Denzel were on the today show “live” with Katie Couric to talk about the movie “Manchurian Candidate.”
At one point Katie asked Denzel, “have you seen Fahrenheit 9/11?” To which Denzel replied, “No, and I have no intentions on seeing it.” Katie and Meryl were “so noticeably” taken aback!
Then, a discourse (or more preferably, a fight!) began between all three of them with Denzel being barraged with all kinds of anti-Bush, anti-Republican comments, but “the man stood his ground” and soon enraged the women so much that they couldn’t get a word in edgewise. Meryl Streep turned blood red and she sat with her legs crossed and her one leg shaking up and down, fuming! Then Katie uttered the words that put the final nail in her coffin, she said to Denzel “you see, that’s the problem I have with “you people.”
She of course did not get to finish her sentence because Denzel pounced on her verbally by responding “YOU PEOPLE! YOU PEOPLE! Just what do you mean you people! Do you mean “You People” as in me as a Christian, or do you mean “You People” as in me as a REPUBLICAN?” She then tap danced her way through the next minute of the show. But Denzel went out fighting and declaring that Fahrenheit 9/11 is nothing but propaganda and lies distorted
to support a cynical democratic film director’s views.
–end of note–
My issue is not with the movie… Moore had every right to see it and Denzel has every right not to see it. It is freedom of choice and people can believe what they want about the movie… we have beaten that horse to death!
My concern is simply this:
If the following is true: “Then Katie uttered the words that put the final nail in her coffin, she said to Denzel “you see, that’s the problem I have with “you people.”
Then NBC has an obligation to rectify the situation. The utterance invokes a race issue for me, although it appears Denzel did not bring it up but implied it, and it simply invokes a lack of respect issue for the thoughts and opinions (and implied: race) of another person from a representative of a major media network.
If it is true… At the least, a formal “on air” apology should be extended. The true course of action should involve an apology and a suspension (with or without pay is up to network. Pay is not the issue, being respectful of everyone is the issue.), but that would be up to network execs…
Like I said, I did not watch the event. This is second hand knowledge from what I consider a reliable source. I have placed a call to NBC for a copy of the show… someone will get back to me (wink, wink)

No offense to you or your aunt, but, uh, this doesn’t even pass the laugh test… Katie Couric is the most plastic of the morning TV hosts… she strives to be inoffensive, and the show strives to be so inoffensive that I’ve seen them cut guests off.
Next point, if you’re disclaiming not having seen the segment, did it occur to you to even research it a bit? Or do you feel your duty is to pass on falsehoods with the preface that “well, this might be false?”
Quick google search for denzel today show led me to the venerable Snopes page: http://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/denzel.asp
Verdict: Innaccurate
Thank you, come again.

Once again, I said…. I did not have first hand knowledge and was asking for input. I don’t have all the “blog pages” indexed, but i knew if I need the input.. you’d be the man. Just refernce it and let you go to work… kinda like my built in refernce check department. Thank you for the help.
Thank you for sharing. As far as my research, I have asked NBC for a copy of the videotape because I would like to see it for myself. Sometimes, blog pages can be just as biased in their interpretation as well… BUT, I will let my aunt know.
have a great day!
BTW, josh says his bidding 98 on his first player saturday….to remind us about his amazing day of golf

But… in my defense… I did preface my facts of no first hand knowledge… that coupled with the fact, I don’t rumage through to many blog pages… I thought I had cleared up the
“Next point, if you’re disclaiming not having seen the segment, did it occur to you to even research it a bit? Or do you feel your duty is to pass on falsehoods with the preface that “well, this might be false?””
I ask people to clarify for me…. in the opening statement:

my strupid computer….slow,slow,slow,slow….sorry for the double post… I hit the say it button again when I thought it had not registered….sorry…
BTW, are you bringing the ESPN draft board to the draft? And do you need an easel for it? I don’t have an easel but I can try and get one if I have some lead time….

Why post something that you’re not sure is true, especially when the content is supposed to be inflammatory? That’s my point. It doesn’t help anything, nor is it particularly informative.

Unfortunately, as is this case in this instance, I have no time to research it. I called NBC, not holding my breath on a call back.
You have the inner scoop on all of the blog rooms. I figured (and I was right, by the way) that you would have something to say rather quickly (right again)….
(side note: no offense taken for me or my aunt. Normally she is on the money with these things, if it was a forward, I will address it with her becuase she wrote it as if she had seen it; and from that stand point, I trust her implicitly. But, hell, if we are wrong and laughable, why take offense… sit back have a beer and laugh. Why not? It’s more fun then crying or getting angry!)…
… (back from side not) sometimes you dare to ask “WHY” I say, what the hell, “WHY NOT”….
anyway… must go call my aunt and try to get to the bottom of this. Peace out.

The reason why not is that you know that people will read the email, like your aunt, and walk away believing it. The email is inflammatory and insulting to Katie Couric and the folks that put on the Today Show. Regardless of your opinion of both, made up criticism isn’t fair.
More to the point in this case, the story doesn’t make sense in any way. Katie Couric is very protective of her image as an All-American gal. The Today Show goes out of its way to be non-controversial. As a result, the story on its face is unbelievable to the point of failing the laugh test…
Finally, the email was clearly written by someone with an agenda to either mobilize Christians and Republicans, to smear NBC, and to smear Katie Couric. You’ve just been used by them to spread a lie.
And Snopes isn’t a “blog room,” it’s a pretty well regarded site that holds the Urban Legends database, a compilation of forwarded emails and other urban legends with background and information on whether they are true, false, or misleading.

I see Katie Couric is playing the ‘ caring disaster journalist’ with her hip boots, no makeup, tossled hair and trying to be the ” I blend in …see” , look at me “! Come on fake one , give us a break !!!!
