Newsweek’s Daniel Gross explains the Consumer Price Index (here’s the official BLS site) in a very simple video. I could do without the goofy sound effects, but it’s a good, 2 minute explanation of how the government tracks inflation.
Per David Simon’s Berkeley talk, though, the video doesn’t go into why this matters. Perhaps they’ll cover that in the next installment of the Economics 101 series.

screw waiting… he’s running unopposed right now… unless the repubs come up with someone compelling soon, it’s pretty much over (and keep in mind that Obama had a good lead even when poster boy Republican Ryan was still, well, poster boy Republican
anyway, I don’t think it’s a stretch to say he’ll have the seat come november. Granted, the Illinois Republican Party could get Ditka to run or someone else of similar fame, but I’m not holding my breath.

I agree. I live in IL. Obama is the man to become the next Abraham Lincoln. He has been state senator for the 13th district of IL for eight years. give him eight years in the us senate (1 term and 1/3 of his second term) then make him vice president with John Edwards. Then make him president in 2020.
