Is Martha Stewart the richest person to serve time in our federal prison system? How about any U.S. prison system?
I don’t know the answer, but it sure seems like a good question to ask.
Update: Leona Helmsley might have the lead at a current value of $2.2 Billion. She was worth much less at the time of her sentencing, because she inherited much of the wealth after her husband died after she was released. So, she may not be a winner. Martha is worth as of some time after her conviction about $335 million.

The answer is no, she is not. A. Alfred Taubman went to prison in 2002 for price fixing and served a year long sentence. His net worth at the time (estimated by Forbes magazine) was approximately 770 million dollars
