I’m very excited about Dashboard coming out on OS X. A lot of you may know about RealTime on ESPN.com. I was one of the big proponents for having it be tight and small so that you can still use your computer while you have the application running (don’t worry, a cool update is coming for the folks that want all their information on screen at once). One of the missing features we have, though, is how to pin the RealTime windows to the front of your screen. In other words, having this little scoreboard stay above your other applications no matter what.

I prototyped a little shell application that would hold any realtime scoreboard, implement native connectivity to our servers here, and would keep the scoreboard floating, docked, and useable. We’ve been looking into a Windows version as well.

So, I see Dashboard and think that Apple has just done it for me on the Mac. This recent post by David Hyatt (key WebKit programmer at Apple) mentions some of the features that I would need to finish these little holders for the RealTime applications. I’m looking forward to getting a copy of the new OS as it comes out.
