… on MTV right now. Their show True Life just did an episode on gay marriage, following a gay couple and a lesbian couple as they went through the process of getting a marriage license and wedding in Cambridge the day that licenses were legally available in Massachusetts. I watched it and was overwhelmed with happiness. With all the horror and tragedy in the world today, to see people enjoying such extraordinary happiness was just incredible. I see myself and Heidi in some of their stories and one day I hope that we can enjoy the same happiness they have. I also was overwhelmed by the reaction of the Cambridge and Boston residents turning out to support the couples. This represents Cambridge at its finest, a city so supportive and community oriented as to put nearly any small town to shame. I miss living in Boston and being in this type of environment. Northampton is very similar, though, and West Hartford feels like it’s on the right track. Heidi and I moving here can only make it better.

Newsweek’s Daniel Gross explains the Consumer Price Index (here’s the official BLS site) in a very simple video. I could do without the goofy sound effects, but it’s a good, 2 minute explanation of how the government tracks inflation.
Per David Simon’s Berkeley talk, though, the video doesn’t go into why this matters. Perhaps they’ll cover that in the next installment of the Economics 101 series.
