Newsweek’s Daniel Gross explains the Consumer Price Index (here’s the official BLS site) in a very simple video. I could do without the goofy sound effects, but it’s a good, 2 minute explanation of how the government tracks inflation.
Per David Simon’s Berkeley talk, though, the video doesn’t go into why this matters. Perhaps they’ll cover that in the next installment of the Economics 101 series.

Please do not riot!
The first 5 minutes of Fox News at 10 tonight was all about how not rioting would be good for Detroit’s image and the security preparations in place to keep people from rioting, which are quite elaborate. I just have to wonder what I’ve gotten myself into. But anyway, GO PISTONS!

Well, I guess that cancels our field trip to Detroit. All we wanted to do was show up, riot, start a few car fires, and leave. Is that too much to ask? Now we are “not supposed to”.. geeze!

I really want the series to go to 7 games. I’d love to see some of the post riot injuries when I am on the orthopedics service next week.
