New article from Newsweek reports that the dust from the 9/11 attacks was far more toxic than previously thought. There were reports back a few years back that the EPA knew that the water and air weren’t as safe as they claimed, but I never heard anything more about it.

I remember being in Manhattan in October 2001 and seeing little flecks of white something floating around the air. I walked from 42nd st or so (wherever the Chinese consulate is) down to Chambers-ish… basically right where they stopped letting non-residents down closer. There was a small park on that corner which had this warning on it:

park warning

Don’t know what ever happened with those tests, but I wonder why anyone would lie about the air quality or water quality. I’m sure that volunteers would’ve shown up anyway to do the work, rescuers would’ve still worked hard and people would’ve done their best to come to work… All of us wanted to do whatever we could and if showing up to work wearing a mask with some bottled water was what it took, I’m sure most people would’ve done it. As a result, I have trouble believing that the administration intentionally lied, but then again… this administration doesn’t have a very good track record with the truth.
