So I saw one of my favorite movies, probably for this year, last night, The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I was a bit wary, because though I loved the previews, and the concept behind it, some of the reviews were not too favorable. The premise is the characher Joel breaks up with his girlfriend (well, she leaves him) Clementine. He goes to apologize and finds she has erased her memory of their relationship. He, being pretty upset, decides to do the same, and during the process of the “erasing” realizes that there are some happy memories that he does not want to let go. It is a touching movie not because Clemetine is always nice, nor their relationship perfect, but it goes on the idea that in the end, there is always that reason you fell in love with someone, and though it might not work out, those memories of that time of being “just completely happy” are wonderful. I enjoyed it more so because it really does the trip through his mind remarkably well, the imagry is very dreamlike (well a lot like my twisted dreams), and dialog is very “real.” The screen play is by Charlie Kaufman, and he once again delivers a really personal, twisted, and fun movie.
Acutally the real reason it was great was Kirsten Dunst was in the movie
