I just had to say it. Seriously, I’ve never heard a bigger whiner (and I live right in the heart of Red Sox Nation, so I know from whiners) than Allen Iverson.

Now, don’t get me wrong, his most recent outburst may have been warranted, but then again, probably not. (To catch those of you who could care less, Randy Ayers, was fired as head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers a few days ago with less than a year under his belt in the position).

This quote was taken from ESPN Insider (originally in the Philly Inquirer):

“Being here as long as I’ve been here, yeah, I definitely feel like someone should have said something to me,” Iverson said in the Philadelphia Inquirer. “But I feel like I’m supposed to be involved with a lot of stuff, like trade talks, even if I’m involved. Let me know. I think I’ve earned the right just to know some of the things that are going on. For me to get awakened by a phone call from somebody who’s not even in the organization to tell me that the head coach has been fired… it was a shock to me.”

So, let me get this straight? He believes himself a star player. He believes himself to be the best player on the court at any given moment, and now, because of this, he wants a say in personnel matters too? Last I checked, star players acted in a way that made teams want them as their poster-boys, not prima-donna’s. Did he forget how he fought with the previous coach every five minutes because he didn’t like the system that the coach wanted to install? (Probably because it took away shots from Baby Iverson?) Did he forget the childish rant two years ago about how little he “practiced?” Maybe if he practiced more we wouldn’t be wondering why his FT percentage is less than 75%, his shooting percentage is UNDER 40% on the season, yet still leading the league with 27.5 points per game!!!! In his most recent two games, he has shot 6-21 and 5-20.

I know I’ve said it in the past, but I have to say it again, Allen Iverson is a child. He’s a child with a HUGE microphone in his face at all times because the media knows they will get something juicy from him at every turn. I don’t think players should have a voice or even an ear to personnel or coaching moves. I just think they should do their jobs, shut up and play.

Another tangential part of this is that just last week he called his teammates out for having no heart. Well, you know what, if I played with Iverson, I’d have no heart either. He’s selfish. He’s a whiner, a cry baby, and this so-called team will go no where so long as he is on it.

Its not the other guys, Al, its you. Grow up. You piss me off.
