MTV has made changes to its daytime video rotation, pulling 6 videos deemed too racy for daytime viewing. This was apparently done because of the furor over Janet Jackson’s right boob. What got my attention was this line:
She denied that MTV was engaging in self-censorship or responding to pressure from its corporate parent, Viacom Inc.
The article then goes on to quote the spokeswoman as saying
“We always take into account what the cultural environment is on an ongoing basis,” the spokeswoman said. “Given the particular sensitivity in the culture right now, we’re erring on the side of caution for the immediate future.”
Isn’t that the definition of self-censorship?

This may not be hypocrisy as much as sloppy journalism. There are no quotes using the term “self-censorship;” it is part of the writer’s description.
