I just saw a ESPN commercial on TV that has to be one of the funniest ones I’ve seen. They show a high school team getting ready for a basketball game and interview locals. As it goes on, you find out that their team nickname is “the Nimrods.” It goes on showing the cheerleaders, folks saying “Go Nimrods!” and ends with the following words on the screen:
Without Sports, Who Would Cheer For The Nimrods?
I was laughing for a good minute after it was done. The even funnier thing is that this is a real school! And, they were on ESPN once before. Go Nimrods!

I love those team names on the link! We are the Ware Indians… Why can’t we be something COOL? Students have suggested the Ware Wolves. I like that, too.

I went to the rival high school Bessemer that they played in the commercial. They were in my conference for sports. Im glad to see the U.P. get noticed in some way. Go Speedboys!!

I should start hawking my Flivver gear on eBay or something. The authenticism of that commercial is what really gets me…the accents, the locker rooms, the deer camp, the gym. It was EXACTLY like playing basketball (and living) in the U.P. really was, especially when we played the little schools like Watersmeet.
