Rush Limbaugh still can’t admit he’s wrong about anything, ever… McNabb’s performance this weekend and over the past 10 weeks should basically answer any questions about whether he’s overrated or not. Sports writers and commentators around the country are now ripping on Limbaugh for his stupid comment about McNabb near the start of the season, constantly reminding everyone that Limbaugh really doesn’t know anything. Well, Rushy boy still doesn’t think he’s wrong:
“The bottom line of this is what I said has been totally distorted, I think, on purpose,” Limbaugh said, a few minutes after a caller asked him what he thought of media personalities like Fox’s Cris Collinsworth continuing to mock Limbaugh’s earlier remarks.
“I think what’s happened here, with the way all of this is being reported, sort of vindicates me or confirms what I’m saying,” he said. “I don’t think I even need any vindication. Collinsworth and all these people continue to suggest that I questioned McNabb’s performance because of his race, and I didn’t do that. I did not question McNabb’s performance because of his race at all. What I did was question their performance as journalists by skewing their analysis of McNabb’s performance - and they continue to do it.”
The implication, apparently, is that the media continues to overrate McNabb. That would be a neat trick at this point, considering the way he has played the last 2 months. Limbaugh, though, didn’t explain.
“This was an integrity-of-sports-reporting comment that I made,” he said. “It wasn’t about McNabb’s performance, per se. Yet these people continue to treat this as a racist comment rather than a critique of their own reporting, which is what this was.
“The reason, I think, it hit a hot button for them, and that’s why they’ve gone off on this tangent here, and totally missed that the comment was about them, these reporters. It’s one thing, if they want to go on and on about it, but you would think at some point that these people would comment on what I was commenting on…instead of taking the easy route for them…
“I just watch in continued amazement as this is used by all these other guys to elevate themselves into some sort of superior position when, in fact, they still haven’t had the guts to address who it was I was talking about - which was them.”
What’s amusing about this is that he continues to miss the point. The reporters got what he was saying. They also understand that for Rush’s comment to make any sense, his assertion that McNabb is “overrated” would need to be true. Otherwise, he has no point. I mean, how can you overrate an All Pro QB by calling him an All Pro QB? McNabb gets the same press as the other elite QB’s in the league. Whatever you think of his “pure passer” skills, opposing defensive coordinators still have to game plan around him. You can’t say that about the Brad Johnson’s of the world.
So, Rush, quick news flash for you… Admit you’re wrong when you’re wrong and take a moment to understand why everyone is making fun of you… it’s not because they’re afraid you’re right… it’s because what you said is truly idiotic.
