Newsweek’s Daniel Gross explains the Consumer Price Index (here’s the official BLS site) in a very simple video. I could do without the goofy sound effects, but it’s a good, 2 minute explanation of how the government tracks inflation.
Per David Simon’s Berkeley talk, though, the video doesn’t go into why this matters. Perhaps they’ll cover that in the next installment of the Economics 101 series.

Hey Nacho. Don’t know if you remember me… I just thought I would ask if you’ve been playing Socom II at all? I’m about to enter your world of having to go to bed early and wake up even earlier, so it would be cool to have someone to play with in the evenings instead of the middle of the night like most of my other friends. Oh well, just wanted to say hello and hope everything is well for you.
