One of the fun things about working here is that we can do some pet projects that eventually will see the light of day. Last night I stayed up for a while implementing a couple of test RSS feeds from ESPN.com. Now you can get ESPN’s content in your favorite news aggregator. I’m working with Kareem and others to figure out how to make this official for the organization and provide them for all sports and sections of ESPN.com. We’re also exploring some novel ideas for RSS and sports (think fantasy games).

Currently, I have finished three feeds. They are:

Here are convenient import files if you want to get them all: ESPN-nnw.opml. We’re working on getting the other sports. My personal priority is to get a Page 2 feed. I never get a chance to read it each day and it is one of my favorite parts of ESPN.com.

Also, I’ve gotten a few new recommendations for news aggregators for Windows. First up is Feed Demon. I’ve gotten a chance to see this one in action and it is pretty nice. While I like SharpReader, Feed Demon has a polish to it that puts it on par with many commercial applications. Of course, I think Feed Demon will eventually be a commercial product (it’s in beta right now, so it’s free), but we’ll see.

Someone else is trying NewsDesk. I just wanted to mention it, but I haven’t tried it yet.
