An article at Salon recounting a recent back and forth between MoveOn.org and Senator DeLay’s office. Apparently, DeLay’s office got tired of citizen activists with MoveOn calling his office regarding pending legislation, some of which he sponsored. So, they started redirecting calls to Pariser’s (organizer of MoveOn.org) private cell phone. This is the second time in the past few weeks that I’ve heard of a reputable organization stooping to posting private phone numbers to the public. The article is a good read.

What’s disturbing to me is this trend of attacking the people expressing opinions rather than the opinions themselves. Posting private phone numbers is nothing more than an intimidation tactic against people that disagree with you (on the flip side, calling the established, published number of a Senator’s office seems routine). Fox News did it to Tucker Carlson for a poorly handled joke and DeLay (a Senator!) and the New York Post did it to MoveOn.org organizers. This is shameful, regardless of your politics…
