OK, so I lost a bet to my hockey team, and I need to dye my goatee/mustache purple. It’s temporary; I plan to shave it off the next day. But I have never dyed my hair, and I desperately need help/guidance. Please chime in!

Looks like a performance at NYU (where she was a student for a few years). She really can sing (though she has a few misses playing the piano). There’s talent there, covered these days in a blond wig/hairdo and heavy makeup. Do your best to ignore the goofy MC, if you can.

My hair is FRIED. completely fried. and i don’t want to cut it.
How do i make it healthy again??
March 4th, 2007 at 12:00 PM
I too have a problem…
My natural hair color is medium blonde, and i dyed it back to that color(from a dark reddish-purple color) in december. Then, about a month and a half ago, i decided that i wanted to fuck up my hair once again (way to go me~), so i bleached it and dyed it pink. (special effects atomic pink)
My roots started to grow out (about an inch already), and I decided that I wanted to keep it blonde for real this time.
I tried bleaching it last night with wellite oil bleach and 30 developer. My roots are very bleached, but the pink hasn’t changed much– it’s a few shades lighter, but i’m afraid it’s not light enough.
My question is, would using hair color remover do anything to get the remaining color out?

I have light brown hair that is graying. If I were to use Just For Men in the Dark Sandy Blonde shade would that color only the gray in a way that would give natural, subtle blonde highlights or would it end up looking “brassy”? The box says to go a shade lighter than your natural hair, but i it possible to use too light of a color for a product like this that targets gray?

Paul i really don’t know much about just for men hair dye but buying a lighter shade is probably the best way to go b/c many hair dyes look darker once you dye it…Jan semipermanent colors usually don’t have ammonia in it so they are easier on your hair but i really don’t think it will show up since ur hair is dark already…if it does work then it might make ur hair a shade darker but that also depend on what color ur using on it, also i’ve never heard of that hair color so i’m prolly not much help. Bobbi red hair color is very hard to get out..hair color stripper will most likely get the pink out but there might be some red left over..keep in mind that hair color stripper is really bad for your hair and i wouldn’t recommend putting any bleach or hair color on it for a while. Kris..conditioner will help alot, i would suggest using neutrogena triple moisture conditioner…my hair has been dyed ALOT and this stuff works really good…it says 2 use it once a week but i use it every night and put alot on my hair and let it sit for about five minutes. anyways anybody i reply too i’m sorry if i can’t help much but i hope everything works out good for you.

I just dyed my hair black and I love it. Of course thankfully I can pull it off without looking fake. One word of advice though..you better be damn sure that you want it black. Beacause once it is in..it is there to stay until your hair either grows out or you get it processed. Good luck to ya’ll Please do not try to remove it yourself..you will just wreck your hair. Go to a professional.

Your hair is going to be black unless you bleach it or get it stripped. There is no going over black with brown tried it and failed miserably.

okay heres the story
im the type of person who gets extreamly bored with everything and needs change. if i dont dye my hair once a month atleast i got crazy. just last night i had seen a picture of this girls hair. it was blonde with a bunch of black patches in it. and i loved it. my hair was a kind of like an auborn color. and it was so pretty on me because my natural hair color is red so it was just a few shades different. anyway last night i bleached my hair then dyed it blonde THEN added the black. my hairs completely fried and my hands are disgusting. i never wear the gloves they giv eyou becuase 1, there always 10 times to big and 2, because i feel it doesnt come out perfect and if you get some dye on the back side of the glove that could medd up my whole design that im going for. i no alot about hair because of all ive been taught from salons, like getting my hair stripped every dye once you take out all the pigmint its orange. and so on. i just need to no what i can put in my hair to make it look less fried and also how to get the dye off my hands. two friends of mine told me different things, one said “wash your hands wtih the same color dye and in seconds it comes off” but im afraid that its just goign to make my hands worse but hten the other said “use vaseline” i dont have any of that i dont think.
help! haha

kristen, i’m so sorry about your dilemna. i actually am a hair stylist in Dallas, TX at Clive and Co. I recommend that you use a conditioning treatment of some sort on your hair before you do anything else. We use Kerastase at our salon, however, I know there are other good products out there. I would then consult a color specialist in your area regarding what you can do to fix the color problems. Also, as a person who hates to wear gloves when coloring as well, I know from experience that nothing but time will remove the stain from your hands. Luckily, I shampoo heads all day, which helps a lot. My main concern is the integrity and health of your hair, so please try and get a treatment of some sort on it soon.

Right, I always have my hair dyed different colors, but I always go to a professional. I’ve been a darkish brown color for a while now and decided today that it was time to go blonde. Like always I went to a salon and had it professionally done, the hairdresser told me that as I was going from dark to light she couldn’t do my whole head but would put in as many highlights as possible. Now, I’ve some hoe ended up with bright yellow hair and I hate it really badly.
I desperatley want to fix asap but don’t have to money to go back to a salon. Any advice on what I can do? Please tell me what will cover this horrible yellow, I don’t mind if I end up blonde or brown as long as this is fixed. Please.

I have dark blond hair, and have been red for many years. I had color build-up and black low-lights. Decided to go brown (more natural) so I used LOREAL Color Zap. I was scared I was going to end up with a disaster or fried hair, but it worked great. I put it on the darker sections first so it would end up more even. I zapped it per instructions and put on the new color right after rinsing out(semi-permanent just in case I hated it). Came out great!!! Hair is not damaged, but I did strand test first. I would recommend if your hair is too dark but is still pretty healthy.

had my hair dyed at hairdresser, bleached blonde, tehy did a toner and my hair has a tinge of purple. washed it once and its gone away a bit but i still knida look ike i have a purple rinse. help! should I demand the hairdresser fix it or will it just eventually go?
April 30th, 2007 at 11:37 PM
Kate Coughlan – if you use a color that is the same lightness as the purple in your hair in a golden tone it will neutralize the purple for you.
raych – you have a few things that could help to be blonde still you can use natural instincts #06 Linen mixed with 2oz of a mild shampoo leaving in the hair for up to 20 minutes that should tone the yellow and if you have already fixed it awesome but that`ll work to tone bright yellow like the outside of a bananna if it looks like the inside of a bananna (a pale yellow) you can tone using natural instincts #02 Sahara mixed the same way.

Long time people! How’ve you been!? I’ve aged since we last spoke and am no longer a petty little child
enough with the chit chat. I allowed my black henna to fade to the brown beneath, the brown is covering the blonde. Right, so here’s my question… The tips of my hair -it reaches my bra strap, and about four fingers of that are showing my blonde again. My roots look decidedly grey… Help?!
June 6th, 2007 at 12:48 PM
I hilighted my hair with bleach but it was too blonde so I went over it with a light brown dye. That turned my hair green! I’ve washed and washed and washed my hair but the green just turns green/grey. I made a desperate attempt to re-hilight my hair just now and it’s a gingery/yellow/green/grey colour! I don’t know what to do, the hairdressers is closed now and it would be far too embarrassing to go to a professional now anyway! Any suggestions would be so helpful.
June 8th, 2007 at 11:09 PM
ok. so this month I dyed my hair (of which from months back) had been dyed a blonde…well it was too yellow for me, and decided to dye it back to the sandlewood brown…but it turned the roots a barely noticeable orange and the bottoms the brown i had wnated. i called the salon and got there suggestion (this was last week) and they told me to put a nice and easy product on it, of which i did…to tune the orange out…well it didn’t. instead of making it brown how the lady said it would, it turned the whole head a noticeable orange!!! so i dealt with that for a few days, but i couldn’t handle it…i wanted my brown back…well the other day (two nights ago) i dyed it to a medium ash brown by revlon (i believe) and as i’m looking at it today, it has a silver tinge to it!!!!!!!!! Not all over, but it just… *sigh* it looks awful! Im just hoping it doesn’t turn even more grey as time goes on….:-( i dont have the cash to really be going to the professionals, but then again I’m just sooooo upset because I have an audition on sunday and was hoping my hair would look normal!!! I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO!! please, someone help me, i dont want grey hair but then again i dont want it to fall out either…..
please email me

Hello, I’m going to AX an anime convention at the end of the month. I need to dye my hair dark green like Spike Spiegel. It’s already grown out to the length I need it and I shouldn’t have any problems spraying it. The only problem is findind a dye that will turn it Dark Green. My hair is already Dark Brown but I don’t want somthing that will end up making it BRIGHT GREEN. You guys seem to know a lot about this stuff so any advice on what to use would be appreciated.
Here’s a pic of what I’m trying to get it to look like. http://www.tolland.k12.ct.us/ths/clubs/anime/images/spike.jpg
June 12th, 2007 at 8:45 PM
maximus…do you really want to dye it? you can go out to and sally’s or a party supply store and buy the spray in stuff but if you really want it dyed i’d suggest looking for the shade green u want in manic panic or any other temporary hair color b/c i dunno of any permanent green dye’s…anyways u need 2 bleach it first and then wash ur hair with dawn dish soap…it acts as a base and gets rid of all the oils in your hair so the color will stay better and i also suggest coloring it a couple of days before you go to the convention…i’ve got blue manic panic in my hair and it faded to moss green in a month. every time you wash it it gets lighter.
June 14th, 2007 at 3:22 AM
I can’t bleach it because my hair is already the dark color I need. I just need to get it green. Dark is preferable like the picture there. And yeah, I need to dye it for sure, because I’ll be up for 4 days straight, and the spray in stuff gets all flaky and dusty and looks like crap after a little while. I need to get it dark green but still noticably green. It’s also going to be sprayed up in the air like Spike in the picture.

My hair is already that long, I just need to figure out how to get it that color.
Thank you for the suggestion of Dawn Dish Soap, I’ll do that for sure.

sorry if this has been said before but i’ve read through about 200 posts and am tired:
i have naturally dark-ish blond hair, dyed light blond with ‘permanent’ black undercolor in my fringe, but want to go back to my old color. the light blond isnt a problem, but should i color-strip the black?? i re-dyed it about a month ago and its now a dark, dark brown with a slight red tint. suggestions?
thanks

Hey, I can’t get green hair dye to stick. I tried Dawn Dish Soap like you guys recommended. That doesn’t seem to work at all though. I went through a whole Manic Panic bottle of Electric Lizard green and followed the directions correctly. My hair is still brown though. The only thing green is my scalp.

Help. My hair has always been a medium, golden red color. I have been getting more and more gray for sometime. I stopped coloring my hair at home several years ago when I turned myself into Ronald McDonald. I have had it professionally done since. The last several times I have been to the salon, I end up with very intensely red roots with the rest of my hair being the correct color. I went today and mentioned the problem, again, to the hairdresser. Her solution was to darken the color with more brown to keep me from getting the hot red roots. I ended up with a horrible VERY dark cold brown color with a bluish undertone, ( not that awful cherry burgundy color) but almost a plum undertone. It is horrible and I do not know what to do. How can I get this drab and dark color out? Why are my roots during so bright red? Any help would be appreciated. I look awful and paid a lot of money to look this bad.
June 28th, 2007 at 7:09 PM
your roots turned bright red because there is more heat at the scalp, so the color develops faster. the hairdresser should have applied the color to your roots last, and your color would be even all over.
July 8th, 2007 at 1:29 PM
I desperately need your help!!! Ok, here’s my story… Naturally I have dirty blonde hair…I had been dying it platinum blonde once a month for about a year…just touching up the roots. Well this past week on a crazy whim I decided I wanted to dye it brown (by myself). So not thinking of what it might do to my hair I bought cheap Revlon Colorsilk haircolor…because it was on sale (yikes badd idea) and I went to coloring…it came out an ugly grayish brown. I was MORTIFIED!!! So in desperation I tried dying it back blonde over that…it came out better but I just wasn’t satisfied so ignorantly I dyed it blonde once more in an attempt to lighten it. Now it is a silverish blonde, obviously a sign that all the pigment has been stripped out of it. So my question for you is, What can I do from here? I plan to break down and spend the big bucks to go to a salon and have it fixed, my idea was to have them put back some reds and golden browns…to bring my hair to a nice golden brown and then get a lot of thin blonde highlights…would that be possible?
P.S. to repair the damage from dying it I have been doing one hour deep conditioning treatments of Neutrogena Triple Moisture Mask.

no one,
Not sure if they do, but the thing is that people are answering and helping each other in the comments. Our job is to provide a spam free, registration free place to ask and answer questions, which is what this post is.
It’s definitely died off a bit in the last few months, but that’s just because we don’t advertise for traffic nor are we a hair specialty site, just a place where people can hang out.

I use to use bleachblonde gold rush hair gel. I really loved the product, as I could wear it for a day or night,& wash it out. It seems that has been discontinued, as I can no longer find it.I thought I hit the jackpot today when I found a tube in a salvation army…lol…Has it indeed been discontinued, or can it be found only in certain stores? I use to buy it at wal-mart.

my hair is blonde and yesterday i dyed it with semi-permanant dye, brown..i want to highlight my hair with the box stuff but it says u shouldnt if u have semi permenant hair dye in…wut will happen if i do it?
October 16th, 2007 at 6:31 PM
My hair is naturally red. Not bright red, but more of a light brownish red. I have never dyed my hair, just lowlights and that grew out a long time ago. I want to dye my hair BLACK with a “Clairol (#36 Midnight Black) Natural Instincts non-permanent” at home hair dye kit. Will it turn out a reddish black? Or some crazy color?
If I wanted to get bright red lowlights, would I have to bleach my natural color to do it or could I just dye over my natural color?
Would the black dye come out of my red hair eventually? or would it be permanent unlike it says? Could i use dawn dish soap and strip it out?
replies to this would be much appreciated =) thanks
