OK, so I lost a bet to my hockey team, and I need to dye my goatee/mustache purple. It’s temporary; I plan to shave it off the next day. But I have never dyed my hair, and I desperately need help/guidance. Please chime in!

Looks like a performance at NYU (where she was a student for a few years). She really can sing (though she has a few misses playing the piano). There’s talent there, covered these days in a blond wig/hairdo and heavy makeup. Do your best to ignore the goofy MC, if you can.

I have brown hair and brown eyes and tan-ish skin. I used to be very pale, with black hair and hazel eyes but eventually everything changed, and I don’t know how. I’m not alowed to die my hair, but I was wondering if there was any natural way to get it back to black? And to get my skin paler? And my eyes lighter?

i have black hair, and i want to dye it a dark chocolate brown. i bought the hair dye at the store in the color i want and dyed it but it just made my dark hair look even darker. what color should i buy to achieve the results i want?
December 2nd, 2006 at 3:46 AM
I dont think that it is possible to dye black hair lighter. You would probably have to go to a salon and have them bleach it and then dye it dark choc. I have the same problem but lighter lol. my hair is light brown and when i want to dye it dark/mid blond, I have to have it bleached!! eeek.

In october (2 months ago) I dyed my naturally blonde but highlighted hair brown. Yesterday though, i decided to go to a salon to get it dyed back to blonde.. however after wasting over an hour at the salon i can barely see a difference except that my roots are very blonde and the rest of my hair is a reddish medium brown!!! What happened? and is there anyway for me to become blonde again??
January 8th, 2007 at 6:31 PM
Just a heads up for all you want to be blondes. I had waist length black hair and I started to bleach it two years ago. It was fine for a few months and after that for about a year it got shorter and shorter on its own. despite going to a professional my hair is still shoulder length and i recently dyed it black and it’s grown more since then then it has in the past two years. Like they say in the song “wear sunscreen”: don’t mess too much with your hair when your young, or by the time you’re 40 it’ll look 80.

I would like my hair mostly black with white tips and streaks. Do I dye my whole head black and then bleach the ends a few times? Or, if I bleach first, how do I keep the black from washing into the bleached parts..?
Thank you.

Anonymous, I would suggest going to a hair store like (sallys beauty supply) if you have one where you are and look for “hair stain remover” I use Roux Clean Touch…it works great and gets all the color off with a little scrubbing but it does smell bad….Hecate dye ur hair black then bleach the ends, it won’t be so tough on ur hair…sadly I cannot put bleach on my hair unless I want it turning into mush or breaking off…its black right now and I tried colour rays hair color in some fuschia color on the bottom and it turned my roots pink and the rest dark red…any suggestions on what to do??? I would love to dye it blood red but I don’t want to damage my hair any more.
January 15th, 2007 at 11:34 PM
I colored my hair black the other day and I still want it black but witha purpley tint. Any ideas??
January 16th, 2007 at 7:49 PM
HELP!!
this is the third time i have tried to dye my hair red, vibrant anime red. each time the red lasts about a week then fades to orange, and not just any orange but cheetos, flame head orange. i want red hair very badly what should i do? and will it go orange with any other colors?
January 16th, 2007 at 7:55 PM
demonanjel…buy some hair dye that is really purple looking and just dye it over the black…mine is black and i went and got some red hair color and dyed it and i have a red tint now and but my roots are brighter..i think it looks good tho…cheetos i don’t really know what to tell u…are u using semi-permanent? its really hard to get bright colors to stay in ur hair..they always eventually fade out and reds, blues and greens fade faster than most other colors.

Help! I just dyed my naturally golden brown hair for the first time ever….and black! I don’t like it at all. It’s a temporary color, but lately I’ve been hearing people tell me that it really won’t wash out! Is this true??? I’m freaking out and I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to ruin my hair because it’s been in amazing condition all my life because I’ve never really done any damage to it, but I really do not want it black anymore. Is there a way I can get it out fast? Please help me.
January 23rd, 2007 at 11:02 AM
Jessica — If it’s temporary, it should gradually fade out each time you wash it. Try washing your hair a ton of times with a shampoo that’s not colorsafe to lighten your locks. Good luck!

I dye my hair permenent 3 level black revlon dye color i applied coconut oil when i had head ache and it has become very sticky and oily. I wash my hair regular with shampoo and it does not go. so how do i remove this. please help me. Thankyou.
January 27th, 2007 at 10:39 PM
demonanjel…i wouldn’t use manic panic, it fades out really quick…i’d go get any kind of permanent hair color…i usually use garnier 100% color…Asha, stop using the coconut oil…thats prolly whats making ur hair sticky and oily, other than that maybe try a new shampoo brand and also what can make ur hair oily is conditioner…i don’t know if you use it but whenever i use conditioner i have to make sure i wash it out really good on my scalp because if i don’t it makes my hair look oily.

Dying facial hair can be tricky for many reasons. First of all, it’s usually very coarse, which means that it doesn’t like hair color and is certainly not going to take a vegetable dye like purple. You’ll put it on and rinse it off and your goatee will still be brown. You’ll have to lighten it first with bleach. I would suggest using a facial bleach like the kind that women use to bleach their upper lip. You might need to get two boxes to do this to have enough bleach. It doesn’t have to be bleached white, or yellow, but at the very least an orange-gold color.
Second, you’ll need to go to a beauty supply store or an urban clothing store in a part of town that has lots of people walking around with brightly colored hair. They are probably not going to sell purple vegetable dye at the grocery store. Check Sally’s Beauty Supply or call around.
One major bad thing about purple dyes is that they are usually stains. This means that it will stain any skin it comes in contact with. This means that if you dye your goatee purple, you will have a nice purple goatee shaped stain on your face when you shave it off that will last you at least several days, if not a whole week. Even when you wash off the dye, purple stained water will leave lavender streaks on your skin as well, so I would recommend covering your face and neck with Vaseline, using gloves, and only coloring the surface of your goatee. Don’t let it touch your skin.
If all this sounds pretty intimidating, you might be better off going to the grocery store and purchasing some of the burgundy hair dye. It comes in a box like all the others and is considered to be a variation of purple by some people. Some brands are a little more purple than the others, but they are all going to be a variation of a red-purple and not a blue-purple. This hair dye won’t stain your skin nearly as badly as purple dye will, and if you are careful, not at all. I would honestly say that avoiding staining your skin with purple is pretty much impossible unless you are the most meticulous of people. Go for the burgundy and claim a slight color blindness.

Okay. Hopefully someone can help me. About two months ago, I dyed my hair dark ash brown with L’oreal, and tiring of it, I tried to dye it a dark blonde, sort of golden brown today with Revlon Colorist, but with a blonde dye, which was meant for dark hair, and nothing happened to my color, except for the roots, which are now sort of the color I wanted. Why won’t my hair dye? And can I get some frost & glow and dye it next week or so? I’m impatient when it comes to hair. =[

To Lizzy: I just checked back in to this site, and I just wanted to let you know that last night I had some trouble with some hair dye and decided to try the Dawn dishsoap. WORKS like a charm. You may have to go through several washings, and you can actually see the color coming off with the suds. I was able to get my “discolorations” out. Good luck.
February 2nd, 2007 at 3:13 PM
This site helped me, so I wanted to share this:
To all those brunettes that have been left with ORANGE hair after attempting to go blonde, check this out. I had this same trouble. I tried the information in Post 410, above, and it worked very well. The only bit of info that I would add would be to use a small amount of dye in your gloved palm, about the size of a quarter, then add shampoo – about twice the amount of dye, then mix together and lather it up on your head. As stated, leave it on for 10 minutes OR LESS. The reason I had to use the Dawn (as in my previous post) was because I got a little overzealous on my third washing and used more dye than I should have. But, it wasn’t fatal. I just had a very light (VERY light) bit of blue tint on a couple strands, but Dawn dishsoap got it right out. (Another trick I learned from this site.) Don’t be afraid to use the dye… all you end up doing is washing your hair with a very lightly purple colored shampoo, and you can pretty much see the orange color fading in your hair through the suds. Also, apparently due to mixing it with shampoo, the dye does not get on your skin or scalp. And the end result? My hair is now a beautiful golden blonde – not brassy anymore. It was excellent advice. Good luck.

any1 kno wat the best way to die my hair white peroxide blonde would be if i have dark brown hair is it possible to do in 1 die??
February 14th, 2007 at 1:47 PM
it will probably take more than one time when ur trying to get it that light…i suggest that if u get it light enuff and it turns orange just use some toner on it and it will turn it white, just make sure u get the right toner….charlotte same answer as before, use toner! it gets rid of the orange.
February 14th, 2007 at 1:53 PM
Bootsy…u need hair color stripper..it gets rid of the layers of hair color already in ur hair..its really hard on ur hair and almost makes it feel like straw so i suggest if you use it and then dye it blonde that you leave it like that for a while and get a good moisturizing conditioner…and if the color stripper leaves ur hair looking bronzy or orange then go buy some toner and thatll get rid or the orange then dye it. i would suggest to everyone on this forum not to use bleach alot because ur hair can break off and it really damages it and it can cause ur hair to grow really slow.

Hello, I don’t have the biggest dilemma. Today I got sick of my black hair so I got a “Color Removal Kit”. I used it and only about 75% of my hair is half bleached off, tommorow I plan on buying some real coloring bleaching kits so I can make my hair green or some random color to annoy the elderly and amuse myself. My question is will should some hair bleach remove the rest of the black? I don’t really care how stupid my hair looks right now, I’d just like it a different color.

Ok, as someone who dyes her hair more often than she should admit… here’s the scoop on the Kool Aid dye process ~ since that’s where this thread began like a hundred years ago.
Things to know about KOOL AID DYE:
1) Only really works with VERY blonde or bleached hair. Stay away from greens & blues.. they make you look like you’ve been infested with chlorine, esp when they start fading!
2) Buy a TON of the tiny concentrated packets in the color of your choice. Do *not* try and get the kind with sugar in it, thinking that it’s more Kool Aid. It’s not, and you’ll end up with a TON of sugar in your hair, which is gross. (Lesson learned over a decade ago, lol!)
3)Get a glass cup or bowl, and make a thick paste, using the packets of powder and a little bit of your favorite conditioner. (The pigments will stain plastic!) Do *not* dilute it with water! The thicker, the better… soupy stuff will not stick on your hair, and will just get all over EVERYTHING. Leave it there for a while, just plop it on, and go do other things.
(btw, if you need warning that you need to drape everything because this will make a mess, then you probably shouldn’t be doing this to begin with!)
4)When you’re done, rinse away… you’ll have a good tint, and smell like candy! Remember, it will never be as strong as your Manic Panic, Punky Colors, Special Effects, or whatever else they’re using these days. Your color won’t last super long – It really depends on how concentrated the color is, how light your hair is, and how often you wash it. (It’s good for those that constantly want a change!)
I hope this helps you guys!

March 3rd, 2007 at 3:37 PM
annie if the brown color is not too dark then the blonde will look like lighter streaks of brown. Shaz i would expect Dawn to be found in the U.K just go to the grocery store and into the soap aisle and look for a liquid soap with Dawn written on it…should only be like $2 or $3. plus i dunno why u want dawn dish soap people usually use it on their hair when their using manic panic or something. Carley i dunno if the palmolive stuff is true but if you go 2 a sally beauty supply or hair store u shoulld be able to find shimmer lights, its a purple shampoo that takes the brassy and coppery colors out of hair but its not an instant fix.
