OK, so I lost a bet to my hockey team, and I need to dye my goatee/mustache purple. It’s temporary; I plan to shave it off the next day. But I have never dyed my hair, and I desperately need help/guidance. Please chime in!

Looks like a performance at NYU (where she was a student for a few years). She really can sing (though she has a few misses playing the piano). There’s talent there, covered these days in a blond wig/hairdo and heavy makeup. Do your best to ignore the goofy MC, if you can.

Hi there. I wonder if anyone can help. Bleached hair with white toner used afterwards has come up with purple streaks – any idea for a cure. Liz, London.

Help.

But there still noticable and the bottums still black. i look like a fool, but everyone keeps saying it looks like i have highlights on the top. NO highlights have like blotches of black in the middle.

ALRYT AL U CRAZY PEOPLE !! MYSELF INCLUDED!!!
i dyed my blonde hair (MY GAWGUS BLONDE HAIR DAT I MISS AND LOVE) BLACK …………..
my biggest mistake i have finally found a way to get it out which is fantastic but still im curious about other people’s disasters as soO many people helped me. Never dye your hair ‘SO CALED DARK BROWN’ as it comes out BLACK
always use the strand test as is can save you from a major hair disaster… and always think about your skintone and the desired colour as not thinking about this and dying your hair darker can make you look like a ghost.. what i did
good luck and always think about the consequences PROPLY
have fun doe…. its only hair x

Ok so, I dont know if this is the right place for this or not – but I have a little question.
I dyed my hair an auburn color, more along the lines of brown, but definitely with some red in it. It turned out really nice and just how I wanted it. However, today (the day after I got it) I went to wash my hair (it still smells like chemicals really) and as I was washing it, pink water came out! Even though I washed it clean yesterday when I did it.
And now, it almost appears as if my hair isnt as red as before, and is much more brown. Im really saddened honestly. Any suggestions?

ummm. im trying to dye my hair blonde.
first i put some weird blonde redish color.
and hated it, then to fix it i put a really light blonde color in it, it made it a little better.
but it was still a redish color.
two days later [today] i put a light blonde in it again, made it a little lighter but still not blonde.
im thinking of stripping it to get it to be able to go blonde but im not sure yet.
anyone have any suggestions

This thread is the funniest thing I have ever seen. I really AM looking for tips on streaking my hair at home, but I (unlike 500 other people?) can actually read & see that this isn’t the place. Please, for the love of god, *don’t* turn off comments to this thread—it’s hysterical!
Based on Sujal’s bio, this is something I’m sure he already knows, but Google adores page titles—and the title of this blog post probably gets typed into Google by teenage girls about five thousand times a day. Poor DMR, that hockey wager is the gift that keeps on giving.
FYI, this page is #15 in a Google search for “diy hair streaking” (no quotes).
Thanks so much for the laugh!

Number #570 Lucie – What did you do to get rid of the colour? I have been golden blonde for the past 10 years – I asked my hairdresser to make me more natural as I wanted to be a mousey brown and my hair came out chocolarte brown with red and purple tinges. He told me I have to wait a month before I can do anything further!! i have done the dishwashing liquid and its a little lighter, but is there anything else I can do to get it lighter so that I can go back to blonde???? I have also bought Loreal Super Blonde Pre Lightner and a soft beige blonde eo put in afterwrds…but am scared my hair will go orange or green if I use the pRelightener?? Has anyone used this and does anyone have any advice

MISSING BLONDE
September 14th, 2006 at 3:39 AM
OK everyone, get ready for a hair nightmare.
I was born a MEDIUM BRUNETTE, and at age 18 i dyed my hair BLEACH BLONDE with great results. Of course, on virgin hair this works. then, after that… I went back to my BRUNETTE roots and that worked as well. Over the course of the past 1 1/2 years, I used varying shaded of Garnier, Feria, and Revlon to dye my hair shades of Red, Fire Engine Red, Pomnegrante, Auburn, and Golden Red… all with the boxed results. So, out of the blue… 3 weeks ago, I decided to dye my hair (or try) BLEACH BLONDE like back where I started from 3 years ago off from my FIRE red hair. The first time I used Revlon Colorsilk, the second time I used Garnier Nutrisse, the third time I went back to Revlon Colorsilk. I’ve gone from Red, to Orangey-Red, to Golden-Blonde. But the ONLY PROBLEM HERE is that my roots are BLEACH BLONDE, and my scalp is my natural MEDIUM BROWN. Red was never a problem with me when I used Garnier, my roots grew out fine and I could dye them over the next month without problems. now, i’m completely dumbfounded.
HELP!

ADVICE to anyone wanting to make dark hair dye fade faster.. use head and shoulders shampoo, even toni & guy recommended it to me. try leaving it on for a few mins too every time you wash your hair. it helps strip the colour.
September 19th, 2006 at 5:21 AM
Please can someone give me some advice? ive been dying my hair since i was 12, im now 21 and gone from blonde to red to black to blonde. etc. my hairs in great condition! but i wanna dye it back blonde again from dark brown? whats the best way to do it???? ive used that colour stripper before but is went orange and took me ages to get a good blonde colour. do i take that risk again or is there anything else i can try??
September 22nd, 2006 at 4:08 PM
i bleached my hair about 3 weeks ago, and while i like the color, my roots turned a better color. i think it’s cuz my hair was dyed before, so on those parts the bleach just took it to a reddish blonde (it has been referred to as orange but i like it lol) but where my roots were and the hair was clean it actually bleached blonde. i bleached it again last night hoping all my hair would go that color if i left it in longer. but the predyed parts are still reddish orange, and the top is blonde. if i use a hair stripper and then bleach, will it actually bleach blonde? or am i screwed until all my hair grows out (umm could be a year who knows)? i don’t hate the color it is now i just want to try blonde.

My hair was black for a long long time my friends. The easiest way to remove the black with the least amount of damage is to go to your local beauty supply store, and pick up a radical bleach blond kit. Prepare according to directions and apply liberally, avoiding at least one to two cm of your roots. Continually work through hair until the color is greatly lightened, but do not leave on for the full hour/whatever it tells you. As soon as the color is light enough to dye again, immediatly hop into the shower and rinse the bleach. SHampoo, let your hair dry naturally, wait a few hours, and pick out a nice light version of the color you want your hair, and then redye again, getting everything including your roots. Leave this one longer then directed because it will turn out very light and will need some time to grab your damaged hair.
After dying, remove the dye and apply the conditioner. Leave it on for a good 20-30 minutes and rinse. This is the only way I was able to remove black from my hair, and i hope it helps some of you too.

OK, I cut off 15 inches of hair yesterday and donated it to locks of love for cancer children. If you live in the US, Great Clips will give you a free haircut for the donation by the way. My hair wasn’t in good condition due to dying, perming, etc and they can still use it for the kids. So, now I had all my virgin hair with my natural color,,,unfortunately had some grey in it. Well due to the sassy short hairdo I got I decided to dye it red. My natural haircolor is med/dk brown. I used Loreal HiColor RedHot. WOW! It is red alright but a bit too bright for my taste. How can I tone it down a bit?

I am fourteen years old and live in South Africa. I am not sure if they sell Kool Aid here (I have never heard of it before, apart from in books or during my brief stay in America)but am DESPERATE to dye my hair (a pink or blue) Is it possible to do this with food colouring? And if so, how do I do this? I want to do it as soon as I possibly can, so please could ANYBODY answer me ASAP!!! Oh, my hair just so happens to be a semi dark (and yeah, it is dyed) brown, and I do not want to bleach it as in South Africa blonde is a common colour used mostly by Barbies. So, could anybody PLEASE tell me how to dye my hair with food colouring?? Thanks a MILLION!
And no, my father will not murder me. In fact it may just please him ,”)

OH THIS ONE IS FOR ERIN!
Same boat babe! My hair was this totally gorgeous Autumn-leaves brown, golden and beautiful and I really liked it, but my mother then had her oh-so-brilliant plan to highlight it at home. Well, at twelve I could not resist… Unfortunately the bit*# forgot the wand AND DYED ME HAIR BLONDE!! For two years straight I had to live with it (even though I nearly lost my prefect position) but decided to dye my hair dark brown… Well it ALWAYS faded back to the blonde, finally the brown stayed but after two months it faded to the lighest brown you can imagine with a tinge of green. Dammit! Now I just want blue hair…

Hey all you dyers out there!
Recently I had a problem when I dyed my hair way too dark brown – it looked almost black and I had used a permanent hair dye. I went to this website and found all kinds of advice from bleaches to lemons to vodka….well I decided to try the DAWN DISH LIQUID solution. I have to say, it worked!! Now, it didn’t take ALL of the dye out, but washing my hair in it about 6 times in a row in one night sure helped take the blackness out of it – the suds came out grey colored each time so I could tell it was working. Afterwards I used regular conditioner and my hair is in great condition. No damage, no dryness. I would recommend the dawn dish liquid to anyone trying to lighten a too-dark hair dye job. It won’t produce miracles, but it will get you off the panic and if you keep using it you will see the color fade faster than with regular shampoos. I don’t work for the Dawn company or anything, I am just passing on my experience in hopes of helping someone like me who ends up in a jam. I have learned my hair dye lesson and in the future will only use wash-out colors! Good luck everyone!
October 20th, 2006 at 4:27 PM
Can I just say- God bless you people! I’ve been dying my hair at home for years and never had a mess-up until last night. What was meant to be a dark brown is now a jet black (Avoid Revlon Colorsilk! There’s a reason it’s cheap!) To tell you the truth, it actually looks quite good, but my boss and co-workers are freaking out and I’ve had a VERY stressful and humiliating day at work. It’s been less than 24hrs since I dyed it so I’m going to try the Dawn dish soap tonight. Thanks for giving me hope!!!

Okay, so apparently they do sell Kool Aid in South Africa. Which, I guess, is great, if only I could find some!! But my father did discover this totally funky Henna hair dye (sadly, I have forgotten the name) and we dyed me red. My hair is way too thick and long for just once sachet, so just the top of my head covered but hey, can’t complain! Will carry on searching for Kool Aid, if it works trust me, I will alert you.
OXOXO
October 22nd, 2006 at 12:14 PM
another pointless tip to save you time. To those people who have thick, knotty hair that tangles when you bath/shower…
When you put conditioner in your hair, leave it in for +- a minute, and then brush, as the conditioner softens your hair therefore brushing will be an easy task!
October 22nd, 2006 at 12:20 PM
Firstly, I claim the six hundredth comment
Secondly, when usin Henna dye, make sure your hair is slightly damp despite what you have been told!!! Trust me, in doing so your hair absorbs more of the colour and won’t be so brittle. Allow the Henna to sink in for longer than the required time (e.g I was told thirty minutes, but this failed to work, however when left in for an hour and twenty minutes it worked perfectly)depending on the length of your hair. And lastly… WTF am I doing?? I need help, am not here to give help! Sorry people! One last question, my browns keep on fading to reveal strands or patches of the dyed blonde, how do I prevent this??
October 26th, 2006 at 8:02 PM
This is for blood rose…
So have you solved the green hair prob yet? I have been told to die it red then put a brown die over it but honestly the thought of putting in the red scares me a little!!!!
October 26th, 2006 at 8:06 PM
Let me know if you try the red dye option. Im thinking of doing it this weekend….fingers crossed!
October 29th, 2006 at 7:40 AM
If you’ve dyed your hair blonde abd it’s gone green put tomato ketchup on it for 10 minutes then wash out. chemical in the the ketchup neutralises the green.
If you want to go from bleached blonde to brown -buy a wash in/wash out toner in copper blonde if you’re going light brown or red if you’re going darker. Apply to clean dry hair and leave for half hour. Do not wash out – blot with kitchen towel to remove excess. Then apply permanent colour – I use a ‘natural’ brown or a ‘natural’ light brown because anything with red in it (like ‘warm’, ‘chestnut’ or ‘reddish’ browns) come out very red.
On boxes of good quality hair dyes there is usually a helpline phone number – try them, they’re usually really helpful.
October 29th, 2006 at 4:15 PM
To Blood Rose
You need to re-pigment your hair before you dye it browm – bleaching hair takes all the red pigment out. Put the red tones back in first (see message 603) then dye it a permanent brown and it will stay brown. I’ve done it several times and it works.
October 30th, 2006 at 10:19 AM
dont do it at all!natural is nice n you usually cnt dye it back to it normal colour! hayley n soph xXxXxXxXxXx

Hey,
Everyone who is having questions about bleaching, dying, or any other similar hair concerns, try checking out this website.
It helped guide me through my hair concerns.
http://haircrazy.info/index.php
I went from darkbrown/black, bleached it(it was blonde at roots, and red the rest of it), and dyed it an even red(herbal essences-radiant ruby(deep red)). It’s pretty but, I’m getting bored already after about 2 weeks. LOL
I’ll probably dye it back to dark brown.
Also, when dying it darker, why it probably doesn’t hold for some of you is that you’re not using permanent dye. semi-permanent fades, so it will go back to whatever color you had originally.
So, I will be using a permanent dye to dye it darker, and then from there, when I feel I need a touch up I’ll get a similar color, but a semi-permenant dye that will keep it uniform but won’t change the color significantly.
Check out that site!

I’m blonde and just had a root lift. The new bleached roots are way brighter/platinum than the rest of my hair. How can I blend or neutralize my roots??
November 3rd, 2006 at 8:31 AM
Hey. Well my natural hair colour is like a brown or something. Im not sure. It’s not dark brown! It’s just …BROWN really. Now ive dyed my hair before in the past, and it would either come out not the way i want it or be hard to get rid of etc…but for about a yea rnow i haven’t dyed it! M y hair is in good condition and the top half of my head is my natural colour, and the rest of my hair is near enough my natural colour aswel, so that’s good because i just wanted my natural hair colour back. Anyway, for the first time in a long time, i want to dye it. Nothing extreme this time! Just a very light brown. Which i was hoping shouldn’t be to hard because hair isn’t really dark anyway. But i don’t want to get it done and end up with orangy/red/yellow bits in my hair. (from a previous experience i HATE red in my hair!!) I just want a lighter brown! But i think that all the hairdressers will do is put caramel highlights in it or something…NOT WHAT I WANT. PLEASE HELP…WRITE BACK TO ChickenWuggle@aol.com THANKS X X X X
November 3rd, 2006 at 9:46 PM
I went to mastercuts and got my hair bleached, toned twice and highlights. I just wanted my hair to be a dark brown and they did all the above to cover up my black hair that wouldn’t bleach out. They are not willing to give me my money back and won’t redo it for free. Can I use a natural instinct 28 wash dark brown to cover up the brassy colored hair now?!?!

November 10th, 2006 at 11:42 AM
does anyone know how long the kool aid dying technique will last?
November 10th, 2006 at 8:19 PM
can u dye hair with food coloring? how so? and how long will it last?
November 12th, 2006 at 9:11 AM
I died my own hair yesterday and it turned out too dark so I called l’Oreal help line. To fade the colour out faster she said to apply white or clear dandruff shampoo to dry hair, wait a bit, then wash it out and condition the hair. Do this for 3 days. You cannot keep applying another dye over top because it is unpredictable and can just keep making things worse. It is probably best to get it fixed at a salon that knows what they are doing.
November 12th, 2006 at 4:11 PM
thanks allot justhelping i will try that if anyone has any more suggestions then i’d be happy to hear them!
